Hello and welcome to the August Marvelous Monthly Series. You should have arrived here from Angela Brennan, if not you can go back to the start of the hop by visiting the Altenew Card Blog or using the links at the bottom of this post to navigate.
Today Altenew have released their 5 monthly subscriptions in one big collection. This collection features daffodils, magnolias, a peony, an anemone, and sweet star balloons. The versatile products can be mixed and matched to create many inspiring projects!
I have created 6 cards to showcase the new items and hopefully inspire you, lets take a look.
For this card I used the stamp to stamp out two clusters of flowers and then coloured them with the simple colouring stencil from the kit. I die cut both and added them to the top and bottom of a green card base which I had watermarked with the Daffodil stamp. I added a white heat embossed sentiment from the kit.
Using the stamp to watermark on coloured card helps to fill blank space and adds extra depth and interest to the design.
I love Craft-Your-Life kits, having a stamp, die, simple colouring stencil and 3D embossing folder gives me so many options. Here I have used the stamp, simple colouring stencil and die. I used Altenew's mini blending brushes to ink blend the colour through the stencils. I added the die cut image to a card base that was prepared using the
Dotted Scaled Debossing Cover Die. I added a stamped sentiment and some gold inky splatters.
My second card was made in a very similar way, I didnt use the stamp instead I used the 3D embossing folder to add all of the detail and then cut some black card using the die to add a drop shadow.
Which version do you prefer?
This card was a nightmare and at times looked like a hot mess but I stuck with it and think I managed to save it. I started by ink blending a background and then stamping the image. I then decided to add clear glossy ascents over the glower and leaves. Once dried I used the
Trellis Stencil to add white pigment ink to the background.
I then decided that the flower looked too plain so used my alcohol markers over the dried glossy accents to add detail. This really helped. I then addded some white inky splatters and some sentiments from the
Bold Sentiments stamp set.
I decided that I wanted a rainbow bunch of balloons on my card so set about stamping them out in several colours and then die cutting them. I added them to a background that was created using the
Warp Speed Stencil.
I had used the stencil to colour another project and didn't want to waste the ink left on it, so I spritzed it with water and then laid it on top of a piece of cardstock. This turned out so much better than I expected, I like how the rainbow background is softer then the balloons.
I added the balloons using foam tape and then added hand drawn strings and added a sentiment on a banner.
Last but by no means least is the Open Peony die set. I cut the Peony layers from a shimmery navy cardstock, I then used the Woodless Colouring pencils to add in some purple and white details. The leaves were cut from green card and ink blended to add further detail.
I added the flower to a background that was created using the Deco Wallpaper Stencil. I added some embossing paste and once dry ink blended some colour and added inky splatters.
