Altenew Educators "New Favorite" Blog Hop and Linky Party + Giveaway

Hello and welcome to the AECP January blog hop, let me start by saying happy new year to you all, I hope 2022 brings you all happiness and health, the last 2 years have been very unsettling for all of us with so many changes happening in the world, through all of this I have found so much comfort from my craft and the craft community, I hope crafting brings you peace and comfort too.

The theme for this hop is "New Favorite", I am really loving Altenew's latest product line - -Hot Foil Plates, what I love most is how I can use both the foiled piece and the leftover waste/negative to create even more crafty goodness, I have a really fin card to share showing how I do this, so lets jump in and take a closer look...

To make my card I used the Sunburst Doily Hot Foil Plate, I foil 300gsm cardstock with a purple foil, using the coordinating die I cut the foiled image. I then used the waste/negative leftover foil to foil a piece of card and again cut with the matching die.

I then set about aligning and cutting them in half so that they could be put back together. I used the coordinating die to cut 3 of the Doily shapes, which I sandwiched together and added the foiled pieces to. This gave a really nice chunky embellishment.

To create the sentiment I used the Tiny Sentiments Hello die, I cut 6, yes 6 times from white card. One of the cuts had double sided adhesive on the top, this allowed me to add some of the foil. As I removed the foil it gave a distressed look, which I really like. In order to give the solid foiled Starburst Doily a distressed look I used a battery powered eraser and gently touched the foil surface, I like the effect it creates.

I sandwiched the die cuts together and placed them in the centre of the focal foiled image and then used the Tiny Sentiments Hello stamp set to add the stamped part of the sentiment.

The background was created with the one of the hot foil plates from the Tiny Patterns Hot Foil Plate Set. I added it twice on the top section of my background panel using a blue foil. I then matted this panel onto some blue mirror card and then on to an A2 card.

Altenew Educators "Anything But A Card" Blog Hop and Linky Party + Giveaway

Welcome to the Altenew Educators "Anything but a card" blog hop and giveaway, The hop starts at the Altenew Card Blog Today my post is very different from what I usually share, I'm sharing 3 ways to create your own "faux handmade paper". When I was a child my Mum and Step-Father used to buy eachother the most beautiful cards made from handmade paper, I remember the torn edges and feel of luxury the paper had and wanted to try to recreate this.

In this first example I used kitchen paper, you could also use toilet tissue or Kleenex. I take 4 sheets and lay them on top of each other, I then spritz with water making sure all layers are damp, it's important not to add too much water, you are wanting the paper to compress and stay together. I then added some colour using my Metallic ink sprays and ran it through my die cutting machine with the Beautiful Bergenia embossing folder. I left the embossed paper on a sunny window sill to dry.

In this second example I used tissue paper from the children's craft section at my local craft store, the process was the same but I chose to add colour with Altenew's Watercolour brush markers. I used the

Daisy Bed embossing folder.

My final sample shows how you could use crape paper and swinking, If your not familiar with Swinking you should check out Laurel Beard she is the swinking queen. I added the layered cape paper to my Dreamy tiles embossing folder and rubbed an ink pad over the surface and then embossed, the wet paper allows the ink to bleed out slightly giving a beautiful distressed effect.

You could use the embossed papers to create backgrounds, die cut embellishments or like I did cut gift tags from them. I have't added any embellishments to them yet as I am reluctant to cover any of the detail but I think some small die cut sentiments would look really pretty.
